The Rotary Club of Rothesay Kings would like to make you aware of a project that is very important to us, The Dr. Lalonde Project: Enabling African surgeons to provide affordable life and limb saving surgery using WALANT. Dr. Lalonde is a local plastic surgeon who is renowned for using the WALANT (Wide-awake Local Anesthesia No Tourniquet) procedure locally and seeing the results has been involved in training surgeons worldwide.
Through his volunteer work on Cleft Lip repairs in numerous countries in Africa, he became aware of the need to make hand and limb surgeries more financially accessible for people living there. Most patients in the Eastern, Central and South African countries have no access to hand or other surgery because they cannot afford the unnecessary intravenous sedation and main operating room sterility costs associated with current surgery practices in Africa. With the success of WALANT in Canada, his passion to bring this procedure was born and a partnership was formed with our club.
Please take a moment to read about this important project in the attached handout as we would love to have you join us in improving the lives of others. We would also like to invite you to an information session given by Dr. Lalonde via Zoom on February 22nd , 2023, at 6:30pm.
Please RSVP by email to rothesaykingsrotary@gmail.
