Our club members are committed to using their area of expertise to take action to create lasting change to help our local community and global communities grow stronger.
Fredericton North’s service projects are identified through consultation with and input from the community and its community partners.
Service projects are based on identified needs and fall within Rotary’s Areas of Focus
Recent projects supported by Fredericton North Rotary Club have been:
Locally
- Children - Substantial financial and labour support to Camp Rotary for campers with disabilities
- Child Health - Financial support to send kids from low-income families to the YMCA’s summer camp program
- Education/Literacy - More than 1000 colourful Dictionaries for Life given to Grade 3’s at three local schools supported by in-school volunteering.
- Education – Rotarians read “Josh the Otter” to kindergartens each Spring on water safety.
- Environment – providing labour for trail maintenance throughout the year at NCC’s Lincoln Wetlands property. Included laying a mulch upgrade on 500m of a widened loop and bridge repair.
- Environment - funding and labour assistance to prepare the Food Forest at the Fredericton Botanical Gardens
- Child Health - Food Security - 18-23 Snack Nutrition Buckets provided weekly to students at Nashwaaksis Memorial School and funding for the school’s hot lunch program.
- Child Health - Funded an Adaptive Swing for Garden Creek School playground.
- Environment/Education – financial support for The Gaia Project to purchase books for curriculum-aligned programs in both English and French for students in grades K-12.
- Education - an annual bursary program at Leo Hayes High School for graduating students
Nationally and Internationally
- Eradication of disease - Rotary has been working to eradicate polio in the World for more than 35 years. Its goal of ridding the world of this disease is now at 99.9%.
- At the local level FNRC raises awareness in our local schools and raises funds to support Rotary’s Global Polio Eradication Initiative.
- FNRC supported a Rotary-Toastmaster Alliance tour of Atlantic Province Rotary and Toastmasters Clubs with Anastasia Persico, a Rotarian from Woodbury, Connecticut who presented a talk on human trafficking.
- Continued donations to Rotary International Foundation in support of global sustainable programs.
