Nashwaaksis Memorial Elementary School Healthy Snack Program
Hungry kids don’t learn, and that’s why we started the Healthy Snack Program in 2019 at Nashwaaksis Memorial Elementary School. Every week, each class receives a bowl of healthy snacks so students can grab something to eat whenever they feel hungry.
Each bucket is filled with a variety of nutritious snacks, all made possible through the generosity of our community. Starting in the first week of September, snack donations are welcomed at the home of one of our members. Club members, Friends of Rotary, and supporters drop off their contributions in a large tub by the front door. On weekends, extra snacks are purchased to make sure every classroom has enough to last the week—22 buckets in total!
Our amazing teams of Rotarians take turns sorting the snacks and heading to the school every Monday morning to divide them into buckets—one for each class—and deliver them straight to the classrooms.
Nashwaaksis Memorial Elementary School is part of a community where many families face challenges with food security. Through the Healthy Snack Program, we help make sure kids have the nourishment they need to thrive and learn.
The Fredericton North Rotary Club is proud to support a variety of volunteer programs at the school. The Healthy Snack Program is our biggest and longest-running effort, but we’ve also sponsored a hot lunch program, hosted breakfast parties for grade 5 students moving on to middle school, supported class and Halloween pizza parties, and weekend backpack programs.
We’re here to help kids succeed!
