Remembrance
Many of you know Brian from the 8 years he spent as MLA in the Fredericton area. In fact, the Fredericton Inn used to be in his riding. During that time Brian also served as Legislative Secretary to the Premier for Intergovernmental and Military Affairs.
After his time in elected office, Brian joined Scotiabank, Canada’s largest international bank, as Director of Crisis Management. Brian was part of a small team that established the bank’s crisis planning and response capabilities.
Before holding elected office, Brian was the Senior Political Advisor to Minister of National Defence Peter MacKay, with a focus on procurement. He was awarded a commendation from the Canadian Army for his work to modernize our armoured vehicle fleet during the war in Afghanistan.
During his military Career, Brian commanded troops on two tours of Bosnia with the Royal Canadian Regiment, as well as domestic operations including Ice Storm and the G8 summit. He transferred to the British Army, and deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan. He continues to advocate on veteran’s issues.
Brian served as Executive Director of Aman Lara, the organization of veterans, former interpreters and volunteers that have helped thousands escape the Taliban. He is now the Founder and CEO of Utimus, an organization that helps Afghans, Ukrainians and other newcomers earn Canadian credentials and get into the workforce in Canada.
Brian is a Mackenzie King Travelling Scholar, who received his Master's degree from the London School of Economics. Brian received his B.A. Honours from the Royal Military College of Canada.
Today, Brian is here to speak with us about Remembrance Day and the experiences of modern veterans.
